After months of secrecy, rumours and our rumbling bellies, Fortitude Valley favourite, LONgTIME’s little sister has finally opened its door. hôntô is here, and all our Christmases have come at once!

Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Brunswick Street Mall, hôntô is refined, minimalistic, and absolutely stunning, with food just as awe inspiring as the décor.

Focusing on contemporary Japanese-inspired cuisine, boutique wines, craft beers and delicate Japanese whiskies, be transported away from Brisbane and into the backstreets of Tokyo – we’re half expecting Bill Murray to wander out and serenade us.

With charred black surfaces, chandeliers and two statement kitchens, leave all expectations of sushi rolls, udon noodles and edamame at the door – this is experimental fusion food at its best.

If decisiveness isn’t a strong point or the thought of ordering food in front of your date is too overwhelming, let the good people of hôntô take the reins and guide you through their banquet menu – where you’ll get a little taste of the good life, no sweating required.

You’ll look sophisticated and worldly as you dig into tasty raw morsels of yellowtail and wagyu tartare before devouring lobster katsu sando, whole snapper karaage with papaya salad and plump pork and bamboo dumplings. Finish off your evening with a sweet treat of tofu cream panna cotta, yuzu passionfruit and puffed rice – nice.

Another notch in the Valley’s ever-changing dining scene, the biggest problem we’re encountering is deciding where to eat next!

Ready your chopsticks and gather your mates or that special date, there’s nowhere hotter than hôntô.
