Songkran Thai New Year in Chinatown Mall  

Prepare for a colourful cultural celebration as Brisbane City Council hosts Songkran Thai New Year in Chinatown Mall on Saturday 13 April! Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival on the Buddhist calendar and marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year. The festival will feature a range of activities and events to celebrate cultural diversity and showcase the cultures of Thailand and South East Asia. With a variety of South East Asian inspired performances including bathing of the Buddha image, traditional music, dances, workshops, roving acts, along with market stalls and FullMoon Bar & Restaurant’s Water Impact Songkran Party, you won’t want to miss it - find out more here

MEN ALOUD! Queensland Project Choir at EDC Studio, Judith Wright Centre 

Calling all dads, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, cousins and mates! Award-winning singer and conductor of ABC TV’s Choir of Hard Knocks, Dr Jonathon Welch AM is inviting you to join a very special choir for men and boys of all ages to rehearse once a month leading up to Queensland Music Festival's mass choral event, Help Is On Its Way with Glenn Shorrock, on Saturday 27 July. Identity Crisis opening night at Slingshot Bar Gallery 

Identity Crisis Art Exhibition is based on mental health issues and struggles in day to day life. As mental health comes in many forms and levels, this exhibition makes you think about humanity in every light. Also showing is a series of illustrations based on the life of Shayne and how you can relate. Come along, have a chat (deep and meaningful or just a laugh over a good beer provided by the staff at Slingshot) and enjoy a unique artistic experience from 7pm on Thursday 4 April. 

The Kids are Alright, Brisbane Youth Week Launch at Greaser 

Head to Greaser from 3pm on Saturday 6 April as 4ZZZ launches Brisbane Youth Week 2019 with local upstarts Salmon & The Peaches, The Ancient Bloods, Guava Lava and Perve Endings playing a FREE all ages show! 4ZZZ has teamed up with Visible Ink to support Brisbane artists no matter how young or old, so be sure to check it out and support the next generation of Brisbane musicians. 

PURE Brisbane ’19 at The Family  

All about that bass? Join The Family for a night of PURE techno, delivered with incredible sound in an old fashioned rave atmosphere. One of Australia and New Zealand’s most loved techno events, PURE, is mixing back on Friday 12 April from 8pm, presented and curated by Carl Cox, Eric Powell of Bush Records and Richie McNeill of Hardware. You’ll get to see Marco Carola (Italy), Joseph Capriati (Italy), Enrico Sangiuliano (Italy) and Eric Powell take to the stage once again in 2019.Get more information here

Marina Strocchi at Jan Murphy Gallery  

From Tuesday 9 April to Saturday 4 May, make your way to Jan Murphy Gallery to bask in Marina Strocchi’s glory! For over 20 years, her studio practice has been paramount. Her paintings express a sensitivity to landscape with an awareness of “what lies beneath”, while her perceptions drawn from sharing an environment and experience with Indigenous artists are expressed.

Death by Pinball at Netherworld 

Make sure you squeeze a nap (or five) in before Death by Pinball - Netherworld’s intense 24-hour pinball marathon! From 9am on Saturday 20 April, Netherworld will be closed to the public to make way for the truly terrifying and gratifying ritual. In between rounds, you’ll be free to play Netherworld’s many machines, compete in a side comp or have a quick rest on the ‘stage pit of shame’. Special rewards will be given to those who actually survive the night, and each survivor will get a special Death By Pinball patch! Let’s destroy a city made of cardboard at Blute’s Bar 

Fancy building a cardboard city, then pretending you're Godzilla and smashing it to bits? For one afternoon only (Saturday 20 April from 3pm) Blute’s Bar is turning into a towering cardboard metropolis, for you to smash to the ground! Bring your creations from home or spend some time in Blute’s Bar armed with markers, tape and cardboard to create the ultimate city. For a bit of extra fun, Blute’s will be raffling off the opportunity for two lucky people to get into monster costumes, channel their inner Godzilla and TEAR IT ALL DOWN. A wide selection of local craft drops and international ales will be pouring to slake your thirst, and Lucky Egg – one of Brisbane’s biggest foodie success stories – will be serving clucking good American-Asian style street food. Record Store Day at Phase 4 Records & Cassettes and Tym Guitars 

Spin right round this Record Store Day on Saturday 13 April! Phase 4 Records & Cassettes and Tym Guitars will both be getting into the spirit by celebrating in-store. 

Head to Phase 4 from 9am for three exclusive LCMR releases by Brisbane's finest of the punk and post-punk era: The Same 13, The Hardons and The Lemmings. Members of each band will be around to take photos with you, your pets and your loved ones, with a few secret surprises to expect on the day. At 4pm, Phase 4 will host a special acoustic set by Robert Forster with violinist Karin Bäumler to play tunes from his new LP, Inferno - available in-store on the day.

As for Tym Guitars, THREE live bands, exclusive vinyl and Tym stuff, new vinyl stock for the day, charity raffles, lollies and lemonade and lots of like minded people will all gather together for the same reason. See the lineup here, and be there from 10am.
