Feel that chill in the air? The cool weather is definitely upon us and now is when we really crave those satisfying, tummy-warming dishes. The Valley’s getting cosy with comfort food to warm you from the inside out so whether you’re partial to a parmy or keen for a curry, here’s where to get your fave winter warmers in Fortitude Valley.

Cloudland

Lamb meatballs, traditional hand-stretched pizza and pasta handmade on site? That’s amore. Our tummies love the Italian menu at Cloudland with all our fave carbs and hearty sauces such as beef ragú and ricotta pork sausage. Dine-in to feast on the out-of-this-world ambience – walk-ins are welcome, or book online to secure your table.

The Elephant Hotel

Nothing warms the cockles of our heart like pub grub done right and the stacked schnitties at The Elephant Hotel are the real deal. Pack your appetite for the Outback Spectacular – a house-crumbed chicken schnitzel topped with potato gems, bacon and fried egg and gooey melted mozzarella, or select from steaks, burgers and pizzas. Book your spot on 3252 4136.

Empire Hotel

Located just next door to Cloudland at the top of the Brunswick Street Mall, the Empire Hotel is a beacon for hearty helpings with plenty of rustic chips. The extensive menu meanders through pizzas, burgers, steak and schnitties, plus rotisserie roasted chicken served with chips and satisfying salads. Walk-ins are welcome but with limited seating, it’s best to get along early.

Ivory Tusk

Two words: taco tower. Where to get it? Ivory Tusk, the pastel-hued, Palm Springs-inspired restaurant and space underneath the Woolly Mammoth. The bright inviting space, tropical cocktails and Mexicali-style menu feels like summer, plus there’s the aforementioned taco tower and more filling Mexican street food. Book online now because every day should be Taco Tuesday!

Osbourne Hotel

At the corner of Ann and Constance streets, the Osbourne has been welcoming hungry and thirsty guests since 1864, making it one of the oldest City bars. This is the spot for warm, welcoming food with unexpected flavour – like Szechuan calamari, fried chicken with sriracha mayo and curry with naan bread – as well as pizzas, burgers and steak. DM via Facebook to reserve your seat.

The RG

The Royal George (better known as The RG) is one of the Valley’s OG venues with Fortitude Valley’s largest beer garden and four separate bars. If it’s pub grub you’re after, RG’s has steak, fish and chips, burgers, pizza plus five types of parmigiana and Tex-Mex faves on the menu. Head in early to get in. Doors open daily at 11am.

The Wickham

When the winter sun is shining, head to The Wickham’s Garden Bar to soak up the rays and good times. Open Thursday to Sunday from 4pm, there’s plenty of satisfying bites on the menu from shareable snacks to steaks, fish and chips, burgers, pizzas, pork chops, parmigiana and schnitzels. Bookings essential via vm.thewickham@ausvenueco.com.au
