Chinatown Mall will come to life for the annual Chinese Lunar New Year festival on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 February. Celebrate 2018 - the Year of the Dog, with plenty of live entertainment and artistic performances scheduled throughout the weekend.
Chinese Lunar New Year is a yearly highlight in Brisbane’s three week BrisAsia Festival, and this year is shaping up to be one of the best yet. Chinatown Mall will be transformed into an oriental sight to behold, with lion dancers, traditional music, fire shows and roving acts for you to watch and be amazed. If you’d like to get among the action you can participate in one of the workshops held during the festival, and while you’re at it, why not browse the Asian market stalls and pick up a memento to remember the day.
Each year, Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations attract hundreds of visitors to Fortitude Valley, turning the precinct into a bustling hub of excitement and fun. The festival is a great celebration of Brisbane’s diversity, and provides a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family to experience the rich heritage of Asian culture. Though Chinese Lunar New Year carries a focus on China, the festival is inclusive of a variety of Asian countries, with many interactive experiences and activities for visitors to enjoy.
The celebrations will feature performances from acts such as the Oriental Princess Roving Stilt performers and the Fiesta Creations Fire Show, as well dance shows representing China, Korea and Vietnam. Let’s not forget the iconic roving red lions – the perfect photo prop for your happy snaps.
This is an event not to be missed, so mark the date in your diary today. Main celebrations will take place from 4 – 9pm on Saturday 17 February and 12 noon – 5 pm on Sunday 18 February. We look forward to seeing you there!
