Serving as the flagship Brisbane café for Coolangatta’s Black Lab Coffee Company, The New Black is a caffeine addict’s haven, specialising in single-origin filter coffee using the finest barista equipment, with refreshing cold-drip varieties also available. Head chef Andrew Cameron, formerly the culinary commander at Brisbane fan favourites Paw Paw and Little Loco Café, will be making magic happen in the kitchen with a rotating seasonal menu that is both delicious and nutritious! Chow down on creative dishes such as a breakfast apple pie of cinnamon and vanilla apple rice pudding, vegan crumble, macadamia and apple chips, or the roast pumpkin tacos, with spiced pumpkin, sprouted lentils, tahini yoghurt, fermented chilli sauce and pomegranate on a blue corn tortilla. In the coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled for the launch of The New Black’s evening tapas and wine service, with delicious and tantalising tasting plates to share and drinks to devour well into the night.

Turning her dream of running a bakery into a reality, baker Samantha Fitzpatrick took the plunge and opened the tongue-in-cheek speciality cake shop Cakes and Shit in Bakery Lane no less! Serving up all types of sweet sass and cheeky sugary treats, Cakes and Shit is a must visit for anyone who enjoys a good laugh and a decadent bite to eat. With freshly baked goods ranging from full-sized cakes to artisan brownies and cupcakes, each treat comes with a raunchy one-liner that would make your grandmother blush; ironic considering Samantha cites her grandma as inspiration for many of her creations! Looking for a celebratory gift with some extra sass? Cakes and Shit also offer personalised cake decorating – and no word or phrase is off limits!

Opening its Brunswick Street doors in April, Hello Mister Frankie is the place to go if you’re craving some of the most hyped dishes of the year – poke bowls and puffle cones. Instagram addicts will be familiar with these food trends, and by offering the perfect mix of healthy and decadent bites to eat, Hello Mister Frankie ticks all boxes! Decked out in a brand spankin’ new space that gives off serious minimalist vibes, Lucky Egg Fried Chicken is blessing the bellies of Brisbane with delicious burgers, fried chicken and more! Lucky Egg has become the talk of the town with their Instagrammable feeds that they’ll have you know, are clucking good – and from the crispy chicken patty, creamy slaw and kewpie mayo to the fluffy brioche bun, you’ll be in in food heaven with each bite.
