Matt Okine has hit the ground running in 2020. The Brisbane-raised actor, comedian, writer, musician and former triple j presenter has just sold the film rights to his debut novel, Being Black 'n Chicken, & Chips, premiered season two of The Other Guy – the television show he created and starred in – on Stan, and is gearing up for a run of shows at Brisbane Comedy Festival 2020.

Honestly, is there anything he can’t do? Except, perhaps, play Wonderwall…?

Fave Valley Bar

I drop into Bloodhound Corner Bar every time I’m in Bris. It’s got a really diverse, rotating selection of craft beers, the bartenders know what they’re talking about, and you can sit at the window and people watch all afternoon.

Fave Valley Café/Restaurant

About five years ago I went on a date with a girl at Fat Dumpling. That girl is now my baby mamma, so I don’t know what’s in their xiao long bao, but it definitely keeps people happy!

Fave Valley Live Music Venue

I’m so excited that Fortitude Music Hall has opened its doors. Such an iconic location, so many great acts have already graced its stage, and it looks incredible. I know for a fact Melbourne and Sydney are jealous.

Fave Valley Store/Retailer

About ten years ago I bought a semi-acoustic guitar from Cash Converters in the McWhirters Building, and it still sits in my lounge room to this day. I never play it, but if I’ve had a party and it’s time for people to go home, I always threaten to bust out some Wonderwall and they usually disappear pretty quickly after that.

Fave Valley Memory

Alex Dyson and I held the fifth rave of our ‘5 Raves in 5 Days’ triple j farewell tour at Oh Hello! and I’ll never forget how huge it was. There was a line-up all the way around the block. Amy Shark, Jungle Giants and Ball Park Music went absolutely nuts behind the decks, and my Dad even came along for a boogie. Such an incredible night. I needed a 5am Ric’s breakfast after that one.
