With Chinatown at its heart, it’s no surprise that Fortitude Valley is the cultural epicentre of Brisbane. On Saturday 22 September, Chinatown Mall will light up as the Chinese Moon Festival sweeps through in celebration.

Kicking off from 4pm, experience Asian-inspired performances and festivities with traditional dances, V-pop and K-pop performances, calligraphy and art classes. In between dragon dances and lantern making workshops, you’ll want to experience authentic bites from your loveable locals. Find out more here

From yum cha to dumplings, the Valley is home to some of the best Chinese cuisine Brisbane has to offer, so bring your appetite.

Get front row

Fall in love with the front row, bites in hand at Green Tea, Korrilla BBQ, Kassalong Thai and Tatsu Ramen. Not only will you be sitting pretty with some of the best and most versatile eats of the night, but you’ll be right among the action with the best view of every eye catching moment in the mall!

After getting your cultural fill, wander to some of these favourites:

King of Kings

The true monarch of Chinatown, King of Kings is the sentimental favourite for yum cha in the Valley. Serving up prawn dumplings, steamed dim sums and fried pork buns seven nights a week, it’s little surprise that none have yet successfully challenged the crown.

Golden BBQ

For gold-medal winning Cantonese-style BBQ, make a beeline for Golden BBQ. Crispy BBQ pork, duck, noodles and soups – these generous servings will fill your belly without emptying your wallet.

Enjoy Inn

A traditional Chinese dining experience awaits at Enjoy Inn! Taste the best Yum Cha in the west, with Peking duck worth singing about and the king of all…prawns. Gotta catch ‘em all.

Umami

Some for you and some for Umami. This modern Asian restaurant is infused with flavour, texture and scent. Eat your way through an extensive tapas-style menu, indulging in bao bao or sticking to a classic yakitori. If your bite is bigger than your bark, the ‘not so small’ menu offerings will hit the spot.

Palace Supper Club

Have a soft spot for comfortable dining? Join the club. The Palace Supper Club offers a fabulously relaxed punch to the senses, boasting an impressive collection of rare and top shelf spirits with a food philosophy based on a passion for fresh produce, flavours and techniques. Talk about the royal treatment.

Fat Dumpling Brunswick Street

Whether you think dumplings are an entree or the entire dinner (just order 20!), there are few things more satisfying than a feast at Fat Dumpling. Their Brunswick Street location packs a fine menu of authentic northern Chinese dumplings, poached, steamed and pan-fried.

Golden Palace Chinese Restaurant

Wander through Chinatown Mall to experience the huge Yum Cha menu at Valley legend, Golden Palace Chinese Restaurant. From Shanghai dumplings, ox tripe and black beans to mango pancakes all prepared by chefs with more than 20 years of experience, Golden Palace promises a Yum Cha experience like no other, day or night.

Little Valley

Little Valley: the trendy new kid on the block with big flavour.  It's clear we can't get enough of this joint from the team behind hatted Rick Shores, and the menu draws on a diverse array of influences to create a neo-Chinese menu that's so exciting, you’ll want to try it all (with an expertly crafted cocktail to boot!).

The Chinese Moon Festival is one of our most vibrant cultural festivals and also one of more than 50,000 festivals, events and markets Brisbane City Council helps to delivery each year. All happening on 22 September in Chinatown Mall, be sure to soak up Asian-inspired performances, entertainment and workshops and grab a bite at Brisbane's best Chinese restaurants!
