With a song in your heart and a spring roll in your hand, celebrating Thai New Year in the Valley will send your spirit soaring.

From 4-9pm on Saturday 13 April, Chinatown Mall will host a spectacular celebration for Songkran with plenty of dancing, traditional ceremonies and live music in store.

Drawing upon elements imperative to upholding Thai New Year customs, highlights of the day include a traditional water blessing ceremony (featuring the bathing of Buddha, pouring scented water onto important guests’ hands and asking for their blessing), a Khon show (masked drama), plus music, dances, workshops, roving acts and market stalls heroing Southeast Asia.

If all the excitement is enough to make you hungry (and we’re certain that it is), there are plenty of Fortitude Valley hotspots to give you a fab foodie fix.

Make your way to Tara Thai, Kasalong Thai Restaurant, Thai Wi-Rat, Longtime, Full Moon Bar & Restaurant and Siam Valley for a Songkran feast.

If your taste for Thai lingers long after you’re home, take advantage of Chinatown Car Park's $9 parking deal (available every weekend when booked online) and stock up at Lin & Co Thai Supermarket to try your hand at event-inspired dishes in your very own kitchen!

Be sure to join in at Songkran, another local festival bringing a strong sense of community to Fortitude Valley and celebrating our multicultural city!
