Join in the celebrations for the Indian festival of Diwali in Fortitude Valley on Saturday 26 October!

A vibrant collection of musicians, dancers and performing artists will come together in Chinatown Mall from 4pm to 9pm, with Punjabi bhangra dancing, Bollywood demonstrations, and sitar and dhol musicians bringing the celebratory atmosphere of Diwali to the heart of Brisbane.

A particular highlight will be a performance by fusion group OzIndia, who blends the music of Aboriginal Australians with Indian instruments and contemporary production, with didgeridoo and tabla drumming combined with modern beats, samples, and loops.

As well as the on-stage performances and demonstrations, come sundown a stunning light tunnel will illuminate Chinatown Mall in a representation of the triumph of light (good) over dark (evil) — don’t forget to share your favourite photos from the light tunnel on Instagram using #myvalleybne!

Once you’ve worked up an appetite singing, dancing, and snapping the evening away, stop by some of the Valley’s delicious restaurants for a Diwali-inspired dinner!

Following on from the Nepalese Dashain and Tihar celebrations also happening in the Valley earlier in the month, October is the perfect time to enjoy 8848 Momo House’s juicy Nepalese dumplings, with options including chicken, pork, vegetarian, and cheese. For a more Indian flavour, head to Jatt Flava and tuck in to their authentic range of curries, main courses, accompaniments, and Indian desserts!

Take in the sights and culture of Diwali 2019 in the Valley on Saturday 26 October from 4pm to 9pm.
